The Can Am Rugby Committee is currently seeking new sponsorship for the 2009 tournament. The Committee, along with the Mountaineer Rugby Club, organizes the annual Can Am Rugby Tournament held each year in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, NY. The 36th annual events are scheduled for July 31 through August 2, 2009. There are currently 9 divisions open to participate in:  Men’s (3), Women’s (2) and Old Boys (4 - Over 35+). We are once again holding our Youth clinic (ages 5-14) on Saturday and Sunday and have also added an Under-19 division.

Considered one of the largest and best run rugby events in the world, the Can Am Tournament was created in 1974 by the Mountaineers Rugby Club. The inaugural event was an eight-team affair that quickly doubled and has mushroomed into a mid-summer tradition with 100 teams converging on the Adirondacks.  

 

The Can Am Tournament grew in size and stature, adding eight teams each year through 1987. The Can Am committee then capped participation at 100 teams, making it one of the largest rugby tournaments in the world and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. There is competition in eight different divisions, including one for women.
